Dinner in Peking

On New Years day we decided to go to Peking for a Chinese meal. Peking is located on D.B.Road, R.S.Puram,Coimbatore. Charming place with soft diffused lighting, Chinese lamps on the walls and ceiling, a small aquarium and excellent food. Lung fung soup was superlative and the fried rice and vegetable balls in manchurian sauce was delicious. One big bowl of rice serves two. They also offer Thai and Singaporean cuisine. A nice restaurant for a quite evening out. Peking is also easily the best Chinese restaurant in Coimbatore. The owner is Mr.Joe, a person of Chinese origin, born in Kolkata but has spent the better part of his life in Coimbatore. He speaks fluent Tamil and English but is completely at sea in Chinese. His father migrated from China to Kolkata in 1942 during World War II.

  17. Wonder how you fancied it after being a vegetarian.
Yes Peking is good , not that there are many Chinese restaurants to choose from in Coimbatore, The one in Residency hotel being the other. Well I speak from my time there four years ago.
Talking about Chinese cuisine , what we get here is Indianised versions. Sprinkled with lot of garlic and sauce plus liberal dose of MSG..
One good thing about Peking, I guess is that the folks who run the joint are Chinese for real, not Nepalese and the blokes from the north east.

    1. I eat only vegetarian Chinese food. Of course my son fancies chicken. True we get Indianised Chinese but we like it. Authentic & original Chinese food is generally bland and we have a create a flavor by adding various sauces. Residency is excellent too but a tad expensive.

  18. There's a restaurant named "Peking" in Calcutta too. Same ownership, perhaps?

    Happy New Year!!
